EMDR therapist training and credentials in Spain
“EMDR trained”, “Level II”, “accredited practitioner” and “consultant” do not mean exactly the same thing. Method training also does not replace the underlying professional eligibility to provide healthcare.
In Spain, check two layers: the applicable healthcare profession, qualification and registration first; then EMDR-specific training and experience. Professional-association accreditation adds a competence signal, but it does not guarantee outcomes or replace your assessment of personal fit.
The professional foundation
Spain’s Ministry of Health lists requirements for healthcare practice including an official or recognized qualification, professional registration, absence of suspension or disqualification, and professional-liability cover.
The state healthcare-professional register, REPS, can show certain professional data, although the Ministry warns that implementation is continuing and absence alone does not prove someone is not entitled to practise. Professional colleges and healthcare-centre registers may provide further checks.
Basic training and EMDR accreditation
EMDR Spain describes Level II as completed basic training. Its accredited Clinical level adds experience, specialist training and advanced supervision; Consultant or Supervisor represents further experience and supervision of other practitioners.
EMDR Europe explains that Practitioner accreditation requires demonstrated competence across all eight phases, supervision and clinical practice. Completing training and becoming accredited are not interchangeable claims.
Experience relevant to you
A general credential does not demonstrate experience with children, dissociation, complex trauma, addiction, perinatal health or another specific concern. Ask how much work the practitioner has done with similar situations and which supervision they maintain.
Clinical language, delivery format, your physical location during online care, emergency planning, coordination and willingness to explain alternatives also matter.

Ask for full name and registration number; check the relevant college or register; ask who delivered the EMDR training and which level was completed; clarify accreditation and supervision; and review experience, safety and conditions before booking.
